Job Opportunity: 1L Summer Internships at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty in DC, Open December 1

Becket’s legal internship allows top law students the chance to immediately advance religious liberty by working on real cases like Little Sisters of the Poor v. Burwell, Holt v. Hobbs, and Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church & School v. EEOC.

We equip our legal interns to advance religious liberty in the long term. We do this by teaching the legal and historical foundations of “religious liberty for all,” providing training from leading religious liberty litigators and academics, and offering an environment where they work alongside fellow interns from the nation’s best law schools. Recent classes have included interns from Yale, Harvard, Stanford, and the University of Chicago. Over 65 percent of the 2018 legal internship class have already obtained federal appellate clerkships, and recent Becket intern classes have received 6 clerkships at state supreme courts, 15 federal appellate clerkships, and a clerkship at the U.S. Supreme Court. Becket interns have also worked for the U.S. Department of Justice and firms like Jones Day, Sidley Austin, Gibson Dunn, WilmerHale, and K&L Gates.

To apply for an internship or an externship at Becket, please send an email to internships@becketlaw.org, and attach the following information:

  • A cover letter
  • A resume
  • Writing sample
  • Transcript (not required for 1Ls, unofficial is sufficient)
  • List of 3 references

We accept applications from 1Ls beginning December 1st. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Qualified candidates will have excellent research and writing skills and a demonstrated interest in religious liberty. Internships are ten weeks. Legal interns receive a stipend to contribute to expenses.
