If you’re interested in public interest and government careers, then October is the month for you! For the third year in a row, the CDO is hosting Public Interest Month throughout October. With the big OCI push, it can feel like August and September are all about big firms so October is devoted to public interest.
What does Public Interest Month mean?
Throughout the month of October, the CDO is co-sponsoring with several student organizations to bring in attorneys from a wide variety of backgrounds to speak on-campus. The initiative will feature ten attorney panels throughout the month of October featuring topics ranging from careers in state and local government, paying loans while working in public interest, integrating pro bono work into private practice, becoming a military lawyer, and many more.
You can see the full lineup of events below and on the Notre Dame events page.
All Public Interest Month events are open to RSVPs and you can RSVP here. Because most of the events are catered by Chipotle or Chic-Fil-A, please RSVP as soon as you know you will be able to attend so we can order enough food.
This year, the speaker lineup is the best it has ever been. As you can see, we are bringing in a Federal Public Defender, a Student Debt Specialist, JAG attorneys from various branches of the military, two big law partners who have built thriving pro bono practices, the Hiring Manager for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, and many more. At almost every single event, 2Ls and 3Ls who have worked in public interest and government positions will also join us to speak about their experiences and we will be serving a catered lunch.
We are thrilled to have several wonderful student organizations co-sponsoring Public Interest Month events including the Public Interest Law Forum, Federalist Society, American Constitution Society, Legal Voices for Children and Youth, Environmental Law Society, Future Prosecuting Attorney’s Council, Innocence Project, Business Law Forum, Women’s Legal Forum, Hispanic Law Students Association, Black Law Students Association, and the Military Law Students Association.
We look forward to seeing you at Public Interest Month events throughout October and we are confident that you will get the chance to learn more about exciting careers in public interest, local, state, and federal government!
